Trials and TribulationsThe Tribute Games have come, and set the island back to a time of ritual and sacrifice.
Will you keep your head low, or fight the oncoming tribute.
Events of note of the past four weeks:NPCs
Kronos
epanastatis was deliberately a dick to a lot of people.
Dex the Raptor
dexignated has joined the Fleet, ground division, separate to Hull.
Witt, among those to die during the spread of the virus, unexpectedly returned with the batch of transports whose deaths were not permanent.
AtlantisThe Croatoan virus took a heavy toll on the natural population as well. All in all, the island's population was cut in half during the virus, and after the return of many of the deceased transplants, the population is still down by almost 1/4th what it was. For the first time in years there is a considerable bit of disgruntled murmuring among the natives and not so friendly stares in the direction of the transplants.
The First Atlantean Hospital, the Justice Center, The Libraries of Atlantis, Elektronik's Emporium and the Atlantean Fleets (Air, Aquarian and Gaian) are all still hiring, among many other places that lost employees in the terrible virus.
Reminder that the underground caverns have some
new inhabitants. We recommend you take a flashlight
and a blowtorch if you plan to explore.
Atlantis Weeks 25 & 26 A Tribute to the GodsTrials and TribulationsWeek 25-26A little after Helios has put the sun to rest for the night on Sunday, a change will sweep the island. It won't be noticeable, really, until Monday morning (7/9). Because the buildings, technology and transplants all remain untouched, but strangely, when the morning comes, the island is positively brimming with native Atlanteans. Most would be unfamiliar faces to those who have been here a while, though the familiar figure heads remain. It seems as if the island is at the peak of it's days. The skies are crystal clear when the sun rises and everyone is smiling. The only spot of darkness is the thin trail of smoke coming from the allegedly dormant Mt. Olympus.
Despite the cheerful faces, however, the island is quiet. The people go about their work without speaking and if you try to speak with any of the natives, their eyes will go wide and they will shake their heads and move away. Make a game of it, if you want, though some of the younger children may run away, and the older men may get aggressive.
As night falls on Monday
(7/10), lanterns go up, covered in symbols of ancient Greek and Atlantean mingled together, with quite a few they do not appear to be quite either. A massive banquet will be laid out for any who wish to join, and the spell of silence will be broken with laughter and song, jokes and warm conversation. The banquet will continue to be set well into the dawning hours, with a good crowd sticking it out. And as the sun rises over the bay, the Natives will bow their heads in silence and then wander back to their homes.
Tuesday morning
(7/11) will see the island a virtual ghost town. No one but transplants roam the streets. Window shutters are shut, doors closed, shops closed as well. The only natives wandering the streets will have somber faces and ignore any who try to interact with them completely. To the point of allowing themselves to be attacked. Their faces painted a vivid, bright blue, and their dress nothing but simple tunics. Plain, beige and unremarkable.
These are the servants of the Gods, and to interfere with their work is to declare your disdain for the very beings responsible for the livelihood of the island.
What they are doing is unclear, until high noon. Anyone out on the streets when the sun is at its highest point will find one of these silent servants suddenly invading their space. A single touch of the hand is all it takes, and no matter who you are, be it young student trying to go for a walk, or highly advanced super computer in an impenetrable shell of metal, you will find yourself whisked away in a gust of wind that forces your eyes to close. Open them, and you will find yourself standing among others in a clearing, deep within the island's treacherous rainforest.
But there's a far deeper catch to this than sudden an unpleasant displacement. You are now a champion of the gods. on your arm rests a bracelet with the symbols of one of the Greek Gods or Goddesses, a light weight material that has no seams and fits close to the skin. Beige for Gaia District, Dusty blue for Ouranos District, and Slate black for Kronos district. The bracelet only matters to the point of which God or Goddess of the island has chosen to favor your character. The other symbols could have another meaning, but you will not have much time to dwell on that.
Because after an address from the Servants of the Gods, you will learn what is in store for you. A game of tribute, to chose the champion of the Gods. The bracelets will keep any who have been pulled into the games withing the forest, and any attempts to leave will have unpleasant consequences for whoever dares to try it.
There is only one rule in the tribute games, kill or be killed. Refusal to participate will mean a far slower and more painful death for those who refuse and any who stand with them.
The incentive? The favor of the Gods.
No small token to be trifled with, for the Gods control the island and everything on it. They are the ones who choose who comes, and who goes. Survive the games, emerge victorious, and the world is at your fingertips. Lose the games, and only death will wait you.
Gods are vengeful creatures whose tempers are quite literally the stuff of legends.
You would be wise not to piss them off, for a simple death would be a mercy. Weapons are scattered through the rainforest, and the people as well. Kill or be killed is the law of the Rainforest, and you are not the only one playing. The only way out is to fight your way out, and it is not only your opponent you have to survive.
After all, the Rainforest has never been a safe place. And it isn't going to start now.
Do your plotting in this post.
