Upcoming Event: Croatoan Virus

Hello, Atlantis!

During weeks 21 & 22 (June 9th through June 23rd), a very unique sort of plague will be sweeping its way across Atlantis in the form of the Croatoan virus. The virus is bloodborne and demonic in origin, requiring blood-to-blood contact to spread. Those who are infected will behave as though possessed, retaining their normal personalities, thoughts and memories until the ideal moment to strike arrives, at which point they will feel compelled to spread the virus to those who are not yet infected – in most cases, violently.

There is no antidote for the virus, but those who choose to study it will notice that it leaves traces of sulfur in the blood, which takes three to four hours to manifest, meaning that while someone may be infected, it will take time for tests to confirm or deny their status. The only sure way to stop the spread of the virus is death: killing someone who is either infected or carrying the virus is the only way to ensure that they won’t go on to spread it to other victims, meaning that characters close to the infected will be forced to make difficult choices.

Though the virus itself is bloodborne, the first batch of victims will find themselves infected even without having had any blood-to-blood contact beforehand. It’s entirely up to you to decide whether you want your character to be a part of the initial group of victims, or whether you want them to become infected later on in the event. Additionally, you can opt out if you don’t want your character to be effected at all – they can lock themselves up somewhere good and tight and avoid the whole thing.

There are some biological limitations, as well, though not many. Anyone who is a demon, part-demon, demon-possessed or otherwise has demon blood in them will be immune to the virus, as they already possess demonic presence of some kind. Additionally, any characters who are undead or have inborn powers that allow them to heal or regenerate (such as werewolves or certain mutants) have the ability to be carriers without actually being infected themselves – which means that they can accidentally infect someone if they’re injured and not careful about where they bleed. However, if you play a character who falls under this category and would like them to be fully infected, by all means! It’s certainly possible.

Those who are infected become something like zombies, though they still breathe air and appear quite human. They seem to operate with a hivemind mentality and nearly all of them will feel compelled to work together to spread the virus to the furthest reaches of the island. Though they may operate on their own, they all share a common goal and will do what they can to keep people contained in the city and further the spread of the virus.

At 11:59 PM on June 23rd, anyone who is infected that has not been killed during the event will succumb to the virus and die, only to wake up in the catacombs three days later on the morning of the 26th. Anyone who is killed during the course of the event itself will wake up in the catacombs on the 24th.

I totally wanted to get in here with Kate, because if there's one thing she's really great at, it's exterminating people who are supernaturally inflicted.

The problem is that her definition of "inflicted" is really, really, really, really really loose. So if you even have a chance of having the disease, I can send Kate after you. Her morals are kind of lacking, considering she one time burned down an entire house full of people who didn't do anything because they were either werewolves or related to them. :3c

Lis will eventually get infected but she might accidentally shoot an uninfected person first. Bad aim.
Whale'll probably be one of the first to die, at least from mine, simply from trying to help someone else and not knowing how the virus is spread yet.

I don't have specifics for everyone else but they're going to die too. All of them.

He'll be trying to help bring some organization into the mess coming up with the rest of the SPN crew, Sam, Jo, Ellen, Cas, (and Adam if he's here). Possibly Raven if Sam has taught her how to shoot and she wants in. (Gabe you can come to).
He'll probably end up trying to keep Arya out of trouble again, maybe he'll do a better job of it this time than he did last time.

As for the rest of my people, well. Jefferson is apparently about set to have a meltdown this event and I think he'll end up dying, too.

Bucky and Nick will try to help the fleet and James is going to shoot anyone who comes near him after Gen dies. (Starting with Ethan)

- Adam (didntgetthatmemo) will be getting infected at some point, probably late in the game. Sorry, bros. The "how" is still undetermined, so if anyone is looking to play out spreading the virus, he's free for that.

- Alex (needspunctuation) is host to a demonic entity and therefore will be immune.

- Anita (animator) will be helping to organized the stand at Xavier Academy and doing whatever she can to put down those who are infected to help stop the spread. She will be getting infected later on and will need to be put down, as well.

- Connor (waywardboy) will be immune as he qualifies as a demon by his world's standards, proven by his being effected by spells meant specifically for demons. He will be spending the event protecting Alisha and Cassie.

- Darla (dearone) will be getting infected and turned by Angelus at the last minute. Vampire Bonnie and Clyde are back.

- Emma (cursebreaking) will be doing whatever she can to help in the resistance against the infected. Undecided on whether or not she'll be infected yet, but I'm open to it.

- Howl (vainities) will be doing his hermit thing and staying out of the line of fire, though I am open to having him infected as well.

- Jaime (lordcommander) will arrive in the middle of the event and end up protecting Bran Stark from the infected.

- Jo (lightgunhustler) will be among the first people to be infected and will be going around spreading the virus to others in spades. If you want to play out a little bit of violence, let me know, because I'm all about causing all sorts of trauma with this one.

- Lyla (pandoraproject) will be immune because of her genetic makeup but will act as a carrier regardless.

- Raven (metamorphosing) will become infected and need to be killed at some point. It's totally Sam's fault. :>

- Thor (deemedworthy) will be immune. Asgardian and all.

✧ Derek (along with his daemon) is going to be killed by Kate while in the midst of protecting people. Probably in front of the Atlantis Pack when they can do nothing about it. Still a carrier of the virus, though not aware of it.

✧ Open for Danny getting infected or kicking ass and taking names. Talk 2 me.

✧ Selena is going to try and help people so she's either going to wind up infected&dead or corral herself into the School Bunker with bitties.

✧ Jon and Ghost are going to be killing shit, arriving just before/at event start.

✧ Cassie is going to be with Connor&Alisha and probably dizzy as fuck from future sight brought on by their choices.

✧ Will and Kirjava are locking themselves up. If anyone is caught running the halls in their apartment building they will probably offer sanctuary in there but otherwise.......

✧ Jesse is his world's antichrist so he's immune and probably going to be found in the middle of chaos, trying to gtfo of dodge.

✧ John is going to be creating a barricade somewhere so he can either get roped in with the Les Mis boys or there can be more than one. Up for him getting infected because he's a dumbass who will do some pretty risky shit to help people. And I am p sure the supernatural shit he's taken won't keep him from getting infected. Maybe. idefk soy sauce is weird.

✧ Natasha is going to be trying to help people and kill things, too, but I want her to get infected and force a gun into one of the Avengers' hands so that she doesn't risk hurting anyone that isn't infected. HAVE FUN, TEAMMATES.

✧ Riddick is probably going to arrive sometime soon if not in the middle of the event and just go to fucking town. You want someone safe to hide behind? The Furyan is your man. Better keep up, though.

✧ idk if Lagertha is here or not for the plot but holy shit if she is you can bet your ass she is protecting her some women and children.

✧ also dk about Ezra but he's a Dean Lite, hold the extreme manpain, p much. He'll be trying to kill things and save people and probably get his ass killed/infected in the process.

And that's it. Everybody else is either not in ALC yet or is hiding so good you ain't gon find them. (Umbris is basically watching with popcorn but he can turn into shadows so he doesn't count.)

Alisha won't be infected; she has too good a bodyguard to let her. Thank you, Connor. Also, she'll be locking all her booze up, both in Plaid and at home. Cassie. :|

Merida will be infected! I'd like for her to be okay for about half the event, but I do need someone to infect her and someone to knock her off. As far as death goes, she'd rather be offed by one of the superheroes she looks up to. Clint, Kate, Thor, lookin' at you.

Milo... will probably be up in the sky, if Witt wants him to run and do his duty as part of the emergency response airforce thing. Other than that, I've got nothin', so if anyone wants him for anything, I'm totally open to it.

Baby Doll won't be infected. Not sure how quite yet, but I don't think I'm experienced enough to play her as infected. ;w; I'd probably be okay, but I'm not going to chance it. So that just means she's completely open for non-infecting plotting.

Carrie is immune, but should she be infected, will be a carrier. Yay powers. They're good for something. For once. Probably just this one time and never again. Because what is Carrie having a positive outlook on the subject.

Ivy will be moving people down if they come within a 100 yard circle of her. She's not team captain of the rifle team for nothing. I also assume she'll be partnered up with Mordecai, which increases her chances of survival and good health like woah. Be careful if you're not!infected and get close, though; I'm not so sure she won't shoot anyway.

Rapunzel... I'm not sure when I'll bring her in, but if it's sooner than later, I'm guessing she'll be immune. I mean, if her hair can reverse aging and basically be eternal life in a coif, it's probably powerful enough to rid the infection from her. Or anyone else, if anybody wants to use that as a plot device.

China Girl and Arrietty Clock are out for this, China Girl because she's immune through being uh... made of china... and Arrietty because she's fourteen and four inches tall. Both of those things make me uncomfortable involving her directly in it. However if someone would like to take care of either of them I'm all for that.

England is also immune by grace of being what he is, but would have no issue with killing anyone who was infected. He may not like it, but he'd see the necessity to stop the spread of the virus.

Bro Strider and James Potter will be uninfected unless someone wants to plot otherwise with either of them. Bro would be far more ruthless about killing infected people than James would - James is more likely to stun them and restrain them - but they're both well equipped to take care of themselves. If you need a rescue or someone taking care of and would like to hit any of the three above up for the task, let me know.

Sophie Hatter will be hermiting in Howl's castle with him and Calcifer. Until he ends up infected too. Then I'm not sure what's going to happen to her. She's probably going to be quite scared.

It looks like I might not need to be on hiatus as badly as I thought. Dave will be jumping to the ZOMBIES conclusion almost immediately and livetweeting his experience, though mostly he'll be holed up in his apartment taking care of tinyheart and, after Howl's infected, modesties. He's offering his assistance to anyone who thinks they might need it, but he won't be going out to try to clear the streets of the infected or anything.

So if you need his help let me know!

LATE but..

The Batter is going to be predominantly uninfected. He's not human, but I'm not really sure what he is and I want to subject him to the adverse effects, so he is going to end up infected later on.

For now though he's going to go around and "purify" others, by beating them mercilessly with his bat as is his custom. Watch out, all ye infected. Your purification is soon to be in progress.

When he does finally present as infected however...he'll turn into this thing (CW!! lil bit of body horror there). Not quite so large, but all the same. Whenever he becomes "impure," he becomes what the fandom generally refers to as the "Bad Batter." And in this form he'll be trying to bite and claw at people. :3 You know. Punching holes into them and spreading the virus. He might be a little overzealous, it's in his nature, but he's bound to get it right eventually. And not kill his victims.
